A Night With Iyanla Vanzant

When my friend Meko asked me to see Iyanla Vanzant in Philly a few months ago. I said sure, that sounds like fun. I knew I would be done with school and it would be my “me time” outing for June.

Many of you might watch Fix My Life with Iyanla. Well, not me I’ve never seen that show. I remember Iyanla from twenty plus years ago when I was a lost soul, fresh out of college after my family moved to Delaware.

I remember the little purple book, Acts of Faith. It was a daily devotional that I read for a year. After reading several of her books, I felt empowered. Nothing would compare to seeing her on stage and hearing her speak, and encourage me.

I felt like Iyanla was speaking directly to me. She talked about being pregnant with possibilities and how sometimes when you’re in labor all you can do is let the process happen. She talked about faith and how to manifest it in your daily life.

As I listened to her I realized that my goals are not so far fetched. I embraced that better days are ahead. I received a signed copy of Acts of Faith The Remix and I look forward to reading the devotions each day.

If you ever have the chance to hear Iyanla Vanzant speak I recommend that you don’t miss the opportunity. She made me laugh, cry, and reflect on my life. We don’t need anyone to fix our lives, we have everything we already need to change our lives for the better.

Here are my favorite Iyanla quotes!

~I am my greatest hero.

~How full is your faith cup?

~Put your big girl panties on and do what scares you.
