#getyateachon That’s My Next Book!!!!

Back to school time is quickly approaching. I wish the month of October would move as quickly as August is moving!!! Just saying.

Woe is me, I have already had my back to school nightmares which get more bizarre each year I teach.

I’m blessed to have summer vacation and if I complain about going back to school don’t give me grief. The joy and happiness on people’s face when they ask tell me it’s almost time for school. Makes me say, “I rebuke you in the name of Jesus and not today Satan!”

Last week I did some teacher prep for the new year. I moved the same boxes of things I was going to work on from my office to the laundry room. Then I did organize a few things for the classroom so it’s ready to load up in the car.

I still need to draw a map of my classroom layout. I was trying to think of which heavy tables and bookcases I could put near my door in case there is a lockdown drill. I’m not trying to start a debate. I am just stating a fact.

The teacher anxiety comes not because we don’t want to see our new students. It comes with the situations that we try our best to prepare for that may be out of our control.

Will my classroom be ready for Meet the Teacher night? Will they turn the air on when I’m trying to set up my room? Do I go in a week before to get a head start? Will I get Harrison and Sydney prepped for their new school year? Will I find respite for Sydney after school until I get home? These are just a few of the thoughts that have crossed my mind this morning.

Each year I get wiser and find a way to create a sense of balance with school and home. It usually lasts one month and then it’s over. I haven’t been sleeping in all summer. Thank you Syd, but I admit I will miss our afternoon naps.

I like to use the bathroom and not be on a schedule. How will I continue drinking my gallon of water, and retrain my bladder for the school day?

Teachers are angels on Earth, rock stars, warriors and amazing!!!! We are also human. We need to take care of ourselves, our families and recharge whenever possible.

Get ready for the back to school teacher memes, check on a teacher most of us are trying to detox from Netflix and we will be tired for the month of September, so please don’t ask us to go anywhere after work.

Harrison and Sydney must have their backpacks, summer reading completed and first day of school outfits ready by August 16th. Even though they don’t start school until September 4th!!

My two week countdown has officially started and I’m excited to spend it with the people I love. I’ll work hard writing the next two chapters of my book. I’ll clean out that one closet that was on my summer to do list. Most importantly I will be in my prayer closet as I get my mind right and pray for guidance, wisdom and peace as I approach a new school year.

To all of my teacher friends and especially to my two favorite new teachers Logan and Katie, wishing you all a blessed, happy, healthy and fun school year!!!

Love, Hugs and Blessings!

~Brooke
