No, Sydney doesn’t look autistic and you don’t look crazy, yet here we are. If I had a dollar for every time I heard that line, I might be able to be a stay at home mom.
Sydney doesn’t look autistic and autism doesn’t have a look. Now autism parents, we have a look let me tell you but that my friends is a different blog.
You can’t spot Sydney and her autism out of a crowd. Her headphones aren’t even a clue because half of the people I see walking around have earbuds or headphones in their ears.
In the past I think I mentioned Sydney’s autism first. We were on a different level of our autism journey back then. We didn’t blend in with the crowd. We made a grand entrance and a grand exit.
When I’m told she doesn’t look autistic I try to use that as a teachable moment and spread autism awareness and acceptance.
Autism looks different for each family and that’s what makes it beautiful.
